Funk Field Station
Funk Field Station: Oct 6th 2012
On Saturday Oct 6th artist Patrick Melroy, working with young artists from Santa Barbara’s Museum of Art, in collaboration with the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission and Youth Interactive, with support from Montecito Bank and Trust and the Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club transformed a standard shipping container into public art for the Funk Zone. The neighborhood event was in connection with Focus on the Funk a zone wide celebration of art and activity.
Melroy and his team of artists worked with visitors to create cardboard creations referencing culture and celebrating young creativity. Simultaneously, participant’s stories were collected and broadcast via two-way HAM radio back to the museum by the SB Amateur Radio Club volunteers.
The event was also the Santa Barbara location for the Global Cardboard Challenge created by the Imagination foundation. Events were held internationally at over 230 sites.
