Obstructed Drawing Workshop
Kim Beil invited me to teach a workshop at Stanford’s Italics program. This is an emersion program for first year students who want a creative environment to kick off their academic life.
I proposed to have them obstruct or redesign their grip via athletic tape, binding themselves into new and varied positions. Then I challenged them to do eight blind contour portraits of their peers. The results were fantastic, and in a room of young creatives, many of whom do not draw regularly, we had unanimous participation. Which is to say, they flattered me by following my instructions. All the photos were generously provided by the very excellent Kim Beil.
